Supplies Needed

  • •Conversation candy hearts (1-2 bags / ~30 hearts per team)
  • •Plastic spoons (1 per player or 1 relay baton spoon per team)
  • •Small bowls or party cups (2 per team: 1 start bowl, 1 finish cup)
  • •Painter's tape (to mark start and turnaround boundaries)
  • •Stopwatch or phone timer

How to Play

1. The Hook

A high-stakes, breathless party dash where players balance notoriously slippery conversation hearts on plastic spoons while sprinting across the room—one flinch and your candy heart goes clattering across the floor!

2. Quick Stats

  • Mess Factor: Low (chalky crumbs if stepped on, zero sticky residue)
  • Space Needed: Medium (open living room, hallway, or classroom with a 10–20 ft straight runway)
  • Setup Time: 3 minutes
  • Vibe: High-octane, silly, and instantly competitive

3. Setup

  • Mark a Starting Line and a Finish Line 10 to 15 feet apart using strips of painter's tape on the floor.
  • Place a "Heart Depot" bowl packed with 20–30 conversation candy hearts at each team's station along the starting line.
  • Set an empty "Love Bank" cup directly opposite each team at the far finish line.
  • Arm each player with a plastic spoon (or provide one official relay spoon per team to pass off between legs).

4. The 30-Second Host Explanation

"Listen up, Cupids! On my whistle, Player One must scoop exactly one candy heart onto their spoon—no fingers allowed. You’re going to hustle across the room, dump your heart untouched into your team's Love Bank cup, and sprint back to tag your next teammate. If your heart hits the deck at any point, you must freeze, return to start, and begin your run over. First squad to bank 10 hearts wins the sweet victory!"

5. Step-by-Step Rules

  1. Line Up the Squads: Divide players into balanced teams of 2 to 6 runners queued up single-file behind their designated Heart Depot.
  2. The Clean Scoop: The active runner uses only their spoon handle to fish a single candy heart out of the starting bowl. Zero thumb-pinching or hand-steadying allowed.
  3. The Runway Hustle: The racer navigates across the room toward the finish line cup, keeping the slick candy heart balanced solely on the concave bowl of the spoon. Players must keep their non-spoon hand behind their back.
  4. The Touchless Deposit: Hover the spoon over the Love Bank cup and tilt to slide the heart inside. If the heart misses the cup rim and hits the floor, it does not count and must be retrieved and re-run.
  5. The Handoff: Once the candy lands cleanly inside the cup, the runner sprints back to the start line and tags the hand of the next teammate in line (or passes the relay spoon).
  6. Fumble Protocol: Any dropped heart on the runway must be picked up immediately, returned to the starting bowl, and the runner must restart their leg from the beginning.

6. Winning & Sudden-Death Tiebreaker

How to Win: The first team to successfully deposit a predetermined target (10 hearts for small groups, 15–20 for larger groups) and have all players cross back behind the start line with hands raised takes the match.

Sudden-Death Tiebreaker: Cupid's Tower. One representative from each tied team sits at a flat table with a pile of conversation hearts. On "Go!", they have 45 seconds using only one hand to build the tallest freestanding vertical candy-heart tower. The tallest standing tower at the buzzer takes the trophy.

7. Pro-Host Advice & "Why It Fails"

  • Supply Warning: Stick to classic, chalky hard conversation hearts. Chewy, soft, or gummy candy hearts have moisture that creates natural suction on plastic spoons, completely eliminating the frantic balancing mechanic.
  • Common Pitfall: The "Thumb-Clamp": Excited runners almost always instinctively pin the heart to the spoon with their thumb while sprinting. Station a referee or host at the midpoint and announce ahead of time that non-spoon hands must remain tucked flat against the small of the back.
  • Host Pro-Tip: Want to ramp up the stakes for teens or adults? Switch from handheld spoons to "Mouth Spoons" (gripping the spoon handle gently between teeth) or swap spoons for disposable chopsticks for a hilarious test of fine motor skills under pressure.
