Notorious bootlegger Buster 'Big Boss' Moretti has been found dead at his mahogany desk in the VIP backroom, poisoned by custom hooch during a high-stakes celebration. This printable kit contains everything you need to host a thrilling 1.5 to 2-hour interactive whodunit for 10 to 12 players.

Printing & Materials Guide

The 60-Second Host Welcome Script

"Good evening, guys and dolls, and welcome to The Velvet Lounge. The gin is flowing, the jazz is hot, but the news is grim: Buster 'Big Boss' Moretti has just been found poisoned in his backroom office! The doors are locked, the feds are on their way, and one of you in this room is the killer. Check your envelopes, guard your secrets, and start mingling. Trust nobody, question everybody, and let's find out who killed the Big Boss before midnight!"

How to Play: Step-by-Step Round Guide

  1. Round 1 โ€” Mingling & Secrets (30 Minutes): Guests mingle in character with cocktails or mocktails. Hand out the Round 1 Clue Slips (1A through 1F). Players must deflect suspicion, protect their personal secrets, and drop their clue prompts into conversation.
  2. Round 2 โ€” Physical Evidence Drop (20 Minutes): The host dramatically reveals Evidence Slips A through D at the center table (the Torn Ledger, Cyanide Glass, Stained Silk Handkerchief, and Pawn Ticket). Players examine the physical clues to verify alibis.
  3. Round 3 โ€” Interrogation & Cross-Examination (20 Minutes): Distribute the Round 3 Confrontation Prompts. Players gather in a circle to cross-examine prime suspects under pressure.

Submitting Ballots, The Big Reveal & Awards

  1. Accusation Ballots: Hand each player a Speakeasy Police Accusation Slip. Players privately write down their prime suspect, motive, murder method, and cast votes for superlatives.
  2. The Final Reveal: The host collects all ballots, reads the dramatic confession, and reveals the true murderer and motive.
  3. Awards Ceremony: Present awards for Most Authentic 1920s Costume, Most Dramatic Performance, Slickest Liar / Blackmailer, and Master Detective (highest clue accuracy).

Host Pro-Tips & Common Pitfalls

  • Playing Along: As host, you do not need to know the murderer in advance! You can play any character role; simply keep the sealed "Solution Reveal" envelope unopened until all accusation ballots are collected.
  • 10 vs 12 Players: Players 11 (Father Thomas O'Malley) and 12 (Vivian Delacroix) are optional roles. If hosting for 10 players, simply set these two envelopes aside without altering the mystery logic.
  • Atmosphere: Dim the overhead lights, queue up a 1920s vintage jazz playlist, and encourage simple thrifted props like feather boas, fedoras, faux pearls, and suspenders.
